    "We Are Americans" (Lyrics/Poem)

Did you know anyone who was struck down on that day?
Did you know anyone when the towers fell away?
I'd never met a single one, but always I'll recall:
They were Americans, and we knew them all.

They were fathers, they were mothers, they were children of this land.
They were working men and women, with a vision and a plan.
They were firemen and policemen, who answered to the call.
They were Americans and we knew them all.

As a people we embody every creed and every race.
Equality's our heartbeat and diversity's our face.
And our hands are open wide to share the bounty of this land.
We are Americans, together we stand.

We hold democracy and human rights
Our brightest beacons through darkest nights.

In the firestorm, in the ashes, in the clouds of shattered glass,
We have forged a resolution that is grounded in our past.
One nation, indivisible, we answer to the call:
Justice and liberty and peace for us all.
