9/11 Memorial Reflects on 2016 in Year in Review
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is proud to share the 2016 Year in Review, a look back at 12 months of innovative programming and commemoration that helped mark the 15th anniversary of the 2001 attacks. In 2016, we reached two other special milestones: more than 30 million people have visited the memorial since opening in September 2011 and more than 8 million people have visited the museum since its opening in May 2014.
Also in 2016, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum opened “Rendering the Unthinkable,” its first major special exhibition which explored artists’ experiences after 9/11, hosted robust public programming, held public tributes and special events and much more. Another highlight of 2016 was the more than 30,000 students who participated in our Anniversary in the Schools program and webinar and learned valuable lessons about the 9/11 attacks.
