Flight 93 Families to Run NYC Marathon to Honor, Remember

Every year, tens of thousands of people from across the country and around the world come to tackle the ING New York City Marathon, a prestigious 26.2-mile course. This year, a group of runners very special to all of us at the 9/11 Memorial will be among them: relatives of those aboard United Flight 93 on 9/11. Forty passengers and crew members were killed when Flight 93 crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pa., 10 years ago.

On Sunday, 20 of their family members will run to honor them and to raise awareness for the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania, which was dedicated on the eve of the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The memorial still needs support to complete this lasting tribute to those killed on Flight 93. Please consider donating to their cause by visiting here. The 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center recognizes the importance of creating a place of remembrance on ground made sacred by tragic loss. Our opening on the 10th anniversary of the attacks wouldn't have been possible without the generosity of our supporters and the commitment of board members like David Beamer, father of Flight 93 passenger and hero Todd Beamer.

Those aboard Flight 93 helped successfully foil the hijackers' plan, ensuring that the plane never reached its intended target. Their names are now forever inscribed in bronze at the 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center. Now, your help is needed to complete a beautiful park in Pennsylvania in their memory. As we approach the marathon on Sunday, we send our best to the dedicated family members of those lost on Flight 93.
