Join Iron Workers Locals 40 & 361 and Other Teams in the 9/11 Memorial & Museum 5K Run/Walk and Community Day

For Bryan M. Brady II, director of training for Iron Workers Locals 40 & 361, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s 5K Run/Walk and Community Day is an essential event for New Yorkers.

“The Memorial is a large part of New York, and we’re New York,” said Brady. Many members of Local 40 worked on the original World Trade Center, helped to make structural repairs following the 1993 bombing, assisted with the recovery efforts after 9/11 and helped to build the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

For a group so entwined with the history of the World Trade Center site, the event is a reminder of how the city came together to move on after tragedy. “It’s a great way to represent New York,” said Brady. This year the funds raised for the 5K will support the construction of the 9/11 Memorial Glade, which is dedicated to all who were injured, sickened or died as a result of their work or exposure to contaminants during the recovery operations that lasted for months at the World Trade Center site in the aftermath of 9/11.

Iron Workers Locals 40 & 361 have participated in the Run/Walk for several years as a corporate team. For Brady, the event is an opportunity for team building and to take in the scenery of lower Manhattan: the 5K route provides views of Battery Park City, the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty before ending at the World Trade Center and 9/11 Memorial. “It’s just a beautiful Sunday morning in New York City,” said Brady.
