In Sunshine and Storms, Construction Continues on the 9/11 Memorial Glade
Construction on the 9/11 Memorial Glade progressed over the last couple of weeks, amid mild days reminiscent of spring and storms that blanketed New York City in snow and freezing rain.
During overnight shifts and throughout the day, construction crews have been preparing the southwest quadrant of the Memorial to receive six stone monoliths, each weighing between 15 and 17.5 tons. The monoliths, currently being built in Barre, Vt., will flank a stone pathway where visitors will be able to reflect and experience this space on the Memorial as never before.
The Glade is anticipated to be dedicated on May 30, the 17th anniversary of the end of rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero. All funds raised at this year’s 9/11 Memorial & Museum 5K Run/Walk and Community Day will support the construction of this meaningful space.
