The US Marine Corps Color Guard Visits the 9/11 Memorial
A platoon from the United States Marine Corps Color Guard received a special tour of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
Visiting from Washington, D.C., the Marine Corps Color Guard platoon renders military honors at ceremonies in the D.C. area and across the United States.
Color Sgt. Kenneth Newton, who had visited the 9/11 Memorial previously during Fleet Week, reflected on what the Memorial signifies to young service members.
“This platoon is all young infantry Marines, so we’re taking them here so they can experience what I got to experience,” said Sgt. Newton. “I imagine they’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of why they serve and a commitment to the nation.”
It was Adam Sweckard’s second visit to the Memorial as well. Sweckard, a member of the Commandant’s Four, was struck by the auditory experience of the Plaza.
“When you get close to the wall and you’re looking at names, the sound of the fountain just drowns out everything else,” said Sweckard. “I think that’s the coolest part here.”
