A new class of New York City Police Department recruits visited the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Tuesday morning to honor and remember the members of the NYPD who sacrificed their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. This is the third class of NYPD recruits to visit the Memorial and Museum as a part of their training.

Today marks 45 years since the dedication of the original World Trade Center. The completion of the Twin Towers’ construction was heralded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 4, 1973.

Having watched the Twin Towers collapse and smelled the lingering, rising smoke, sculptor Meredith Bergmann began an 18-inch model of a commemorative sculpture a few days after the attack. She told me that she wanted “to create an allegory to express the idea that America had woken up.”

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s spring 2018 public programming schedule will include discussions with experts on al-Qaeda and Iran’s nuclear program; the United States’ evolving relationships with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia; and the revitalization of the World Trade Center site in the 16 years since the attacks.

Amidst rolling hills and lush green vistas stands a very special grove of trees in the quiet Irish countryside. Hedges crowd narrow roads and the wind swirls and whistles on the climb up the hill that leads to the Kinsale 9/11 Garden of Remembrance.

Mayor of Kerry County Council, John Sheahan, and his wife Mairéad toured the 9/11 Memorial this morning, stopping at the Survivor Tree in reflection and laying a wreath in remembrance at the south pool.
