Howard Milstein is chairman of New York Private Bank & Trust, the largest privately owned bank in the country. Milstein is a managing partner of Milstein Properties, an investment builder active in both residential and commercial development primarily in New York City, and founding chairman of the investment firm FriedbergMilstein. He chairs MB Real Estate, a national commercial leasing and management company.

Earning a BA degree summa cum laude in economics from Cornell University in 1973, Milstein went on to earn law and business degrees from Harvard University in 1977.

Bringing a spirit of entrepreneurship to his civic and philanthropic activities, Milstein devotes a significant amount of time to such work. He chairs both the New York Blood Center and the American Skin Association and serves on the boards of a wide range of other organizations, such as the UJA Federation, where he is on the executive committee of the board, and chairs the New York Jewish Leadership Forum and the United Hospital Fund.

At Cornell University, Milstein serves as trustee emeritus and presidential counselor and is an overseer of the Weill Cornell Medical College. He is a member of the Cornell investment committee and chairman of its real estate subcommittee. Milstein has taught real estate development as a visiting professor at Cornell, is a member of the Advisory Board of the College of Arts and Sciences and is a founding member of the Cornell Club of New York. At Harvard Law School, Milstein is a member of the visiting committee and the executive committee of the dean's advisory board.

A member of the Board of the Economic Club of New York and its executive committee, Milstein is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Real Estate Board of New York. Milstein sponsors the Milstein Criminal Justice Policy Forum of the New York City Citizens Crime Commission. In addition, he is a member of the Chief Executives Organization (CEO) and the World Presidents Organization (WPO), and is a commandeur of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. Outside of New York, Milstein is an international trustee of the Musical Arts Association of Cleveland. In and near Washington, D.C., he serves on the National Board of the Smithsonian Institution, as well as the boards of the Shakespeare Theatre and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.
