Thomas Hegghammer, a senior research fellow at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, discusses the early history and ideology of al-Qaeda. Hegghammer shares insights from his recent book, The Caravan: Abdallah Azzam and the Rise of Global Jihad, a biography of the influential ideologue who played a crucial role in the international spread of the jihadi movement.

This program is the first in new series exploring the history of al-Qaeda and is presented to contextualize the Museum's digital exhibition Revealed: The Hunt for Bin Laden, based on the special exhibition of the same name.
