9/11 MEMORIAL & MUSEUM TEAMS UP WITH NEW YORK ROAD RUNNERS FOR RACE TO REMEMBER IN CENTRAL PARK ON JULY 11, 2026

As New York City and the Nation Prepare to Commemorate 25 Years Since the September 11, 2001 Attacks, Thousands Will Gather in Central Park to Honor Those Killed and Support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum

New York, NY –  The 9/11 Memorial & Museum today announced it is teaming up with New York Road Runners for its annual charity race, presented by RXR. Each year, the run is an opportunity for remembrance and reflection, and this year’s race will take place as America prepares to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 in September. All funds raised from the race will directly support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, keeping the Memorial free for all and expanding educational programs that reach students, teachers, professionals, and communities across the country.

For the first time, this year’s event will take place on Saturday, July 11, as a four-mile race in Central Park, offering a new and inspiring setting for participants to gather in tribute. The updated course will guide participants along a scenic route through the park, creating space for reflection while honoring the 2,977 victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks and recognizing the courage and resilience that followed. This four-miler will serve as a NYRR 9+1 qualifying race for New York Road Runners members seeking guaranteed entry into the 2027 TCS New York City Marathon.

“Each year, this race brings together thousands of runners and spectators united by a shared commitment to remember 9/11,” said Beth Hillman, President and CEO of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. “As we approach the historic 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we’re reaching out to the more than 100 million Americans who are too young to remember that day and asking them to join our mission of commemoration, education, and inspiration.”

Thanks to the collaboration with New York Road Runners, the nonprofit that “runs” New York City producing 60 annual adult and youth races including the TCS New York City Marathon, the four-mile race will accommodate 5,000 runners. Participants will begin the day with an opening program featuring speakers and tributes that reflect the enduring impact of 9/11 and the resilience of New York City.

“New York Road Runners is honored to support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in hosting this powerful and meaningful event as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, New York Road Runners CEO. “As the nonprofit that ‘runs’ New York City, we believe in the power of running to bring people together, and this race provides an opportunity for our community to reflect, remember, and honor those impacted by 9/11 while celebrating the resilience that defines our city.”

For more than a decade, RXR has served as presenting sponsor of this race, along with other sponsors such as Fiserv, Hagerty Consulting, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and Major League Baseball.

“As we approach 25 years since 9/11, events like this take on even greater meaning. Bringing people together not only to honor those we lost, but also to reflect on the strength and compassion that emerged in the aftermath,” said Scott Rechler, CEO and Chairman of RXR, and Vice Chair of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. “RXR is proud to be a longtime supporter of this race and the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and we look forward to seeing this annual event grow with the support of New York Road Runners.”

Registration will open on May 5th for New York Road Runners Member Plus and above levels and May 7th for the general public at nyrr.org/911memorialandmuseum with opportunities to participate in person or support the event through donations. Participants can have even greater impact and earn rewards by fundraising from their peer network.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and the fundraising goal for this year’s event is $800,000. For those unable to join us in person, donation options are available as well. Registration starts at $40 for NYRR Members. For more information, please visit nyrr.org/911memorialandmuseum.
