Description

After studying in New York at the New York Studio School on W8th Street for 4 years, I returned to London a couple of days before September 11, 2001 to begin a Masters degree in Fine Art and made this sculpture. For several months after, I didn't understand what I had made. One day I realised it was in response to the iconic image of the remains at Ground Zero that was pinned to my studio wall in London. The structural fragmented verticals of a skyscraper, with an organic section embedded with rectangles of Astroturf, like many of the green spaces in NYC and implants of glass wax like shattered glass. In a sense it is an urban architectural tombstone of remembrance.
