3rd Annual New York City Firefighter Stair Climb Honors Fallen First Responders
More than 400 police officers and firefighters, some wearing full gear, climbed the 4 World Trade Center stairs on Sunday to memorialize fallen first responders and military personnel worldwide and to raise money for Friends of Firefighters and the 9/11 Tribute Center.
The 3rd Annual New York City Firefighter Stair Climb, launched in 2015 by FDNY Firefighters Chris Barber and John Mills, who lost his father Charles M. Mills, Jr. on 9/11, is held in march to coincide with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and as a reminder that participants “will never forget – not only when Sept. 11 comes around, but we will never forget all year, every year.”
Following an opening tribute and moment of silence at the South Tower reflecting pool on the 9/11 Memorial Plaza, more than 400 first responders ascended the 72 floors of 4WTC. The climb pays tribute to the 23 NYPD officers, 37 PAPD officers and 343 FDNY firefighters lost killed on 9/11.
