Reading List: Making Sense of Syria
Now stretching into its seventh bloody year, the civil war in Syria – pitting regional and international powers against jihadist groups, and at times, against each other – has left more than 400,000 people dead and displaced millions more.
Recently returned from the battlefront in Syria, Barak Barfi, a research fellow at the New America Foundation, will lead a discussion, Making Sense of Syria, on March 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. that explores options for ending or, at least, containing this deadly conflict.
Because the war, the history of the region, and the players are so complex, the 9/11 Memorial Museum asked Barfi to recommend a reading list for those attending the talk or for anyone looking for a deeper understanding of the forces at play and potential pathways to peace.
