Elementary School Students Send Flowers to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum
At the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the Education team works daily with students of all ages to help them understand the 9/11 attacks and their ongoing repercussions. This week, a team of educators laid tissue-paper flowers on the 9/11 Memorial, donated by third grade students from Southside Elementary School in Cabot, Ark.
Some of the students at Southside Elementary participated in the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s Anniversary in the Schools webinar last month, along with about 200,000 other students throughout the world.
One teacher from Southside Elementary, Ms. Driskill, said she absolutely enjoyed the webinar and that her third graders were “very excited” to be able to chat with 9/11 Memorial & Museum Education staff members throughout.
In addition to school tours and workshops, young visitors will have the opportunity throughout the fall to participate in age-appropriate activities on the Memorial plaza and inside the Museum.
Beginning on October 13, children and their caregivers visiting the Memorial can do a series of self-guided, creative explorations at the 9/11 Memorial Art Cart. They can also learn more about artifacts inside the Museum at drop-in Activity Stations in the Museum’s Education Center.
The activities at the Art Cart and in the Education Center will offer meaningful entry-points into the history of the World Trade Center, the events of 9/11 and their aftermath.
