September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World
Lower Manhattan around 8:30 a.m. on September 11, 2001.
This educational exhibition recounts the events of September 11, 2001, through the personal stories of those who witnessed and survived the attacks. Told across 14 posters, this exhibition includes archival photographs and images of artifacts from the Museum’s permanent collection.
World Trade Center History
This online collection of stories explores the symbolism of the World Trade Center and why it became a target on 9/11. These stories provide those who never saw these landmark structures in lower Manhattan with a sense of what they were and what they meant for New York.
Revealed: The Hunt for Bin Laden
This online collection of stories was adapted from the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s special exhibition Revealed: The Hunt For Bin Laden. The supporting lesson plans explore what the U.S. government knew about Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda in the years prior to the 9/11 attacks, and what our government was doing during the nearly 10-year period between 9/11 and the 2011 raid to find bin Laden.
Rendering the Unthinkable: Artists Respond to 9/11
This online presentation of 13 New York City artists deeply affected by the events of 9/11 was adapted from the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s special exhibition, Rendering the Unthinkable: Artists Respond to 9/11. Video interviews with the artists, information about their art and related works, as well as visitor responses from the gallery, explore the ways artists—like everyone—struggled to make sense of the unfathomable destruction and loss of innocent life witnessed on 9/11.
