Guided School Programs FAQs

How long is a guided school program?
All programs are 60 minutes and are led by a skilled member of our education team.

When are they offered?
Programs run on a set schedule: Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:00 p.m.

What if those times/dates don’t work for my group?
You are welcome to schedule a self-guided visit at a time and date that does work. Visit our Group Visits page for more information about self-guided options.

How many people can participate in a guided school program?
Your program includes admission for a total of up to 35 students and chaperones. Groups larger than 35 cannot participate in a guided school program.

How many chaperones should I bring?
Your group should include 1 chaperone for every 10 students.

What languages are programs offered in?
All programs are conducted in English.

What does my guided school program include?
Your program includes interactive explorations of several artifacts inside the Museum as well as time for question breaks and a summative activity. For specific questions regarding program content, email schoolprograms@911memorial.org.

Can my class enter early?
No, you cannot enter before your assigned start time. However, you are welcome to stay after your program to explore more of the Museum.

What happens if we arrive late?
If you arrive more than 30 minutes late, your program will be cancelled.

Where do I check in?
Report to the group entrance, near the southeast corner of the Museum Pavilion.

Can students bring food to the Museum?
No. Food, gum, or beverages other than water are not allowed inside the Museum, and we do not have a lunchroom.

What should students bring?
Bring as little as possible. Large bags slow security screening and require a stop at coat check. We provide students with the materials they need for the program.

What if I need to cancel my program?
Reach out directly to groups@911memorial.org as soon as possible.

Do you have grant funding for New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut schools?
Yes, guided and self-guided student programs are free for New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut schools (subject to verification).

Do I have to participate in a guided program to receive grant funding?
No, funding covers guided and self-guided groups. If you would like to bring your group on a self-guided trip, visit www.911memorial.org/groups for more information.

Are colleges, afterschool programs, or enrichment programs eligible for grant funding?
Grant funding covers only K-12 groups. 

Are Virtual Field Trips eligible for grant funding?
Yes, New York City and New Jersey Schools are eligible for free virtual field trips, as well. For more information, visit our Virtual Field Trips page
