POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager of Education Programs, the Professional Development Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s Professional Development programs for educators, with an emphasis on New Jersey audiences. This programming includes onsite school professional development workshops and conferences, virtual professional development sessions, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Summer Institute for Teachers, the Anniversary Digital Learning Experience, and other initiatives as programs evolve. This position will assist the managerial team with onsite school field trips, virtual school tours, the 9/11 Memorial Art Cart, and Youth & Family tours as needed.

The position will be focused on coordinating the logistical, scheduling, ordering, and teaching needs of these programs in addition to serving as a liaison between the Education Specialists and the department’s managerial staff. This position is responsible for supporting the Manager and Assistant Manager of Education Programs with the assessment of these programs including tracking evaluation and attendance data. The position will facilitate educational programs, as needed.

This is a flexible position and will require some travel, evening, and weekend work. This is a grant-funded position with a three-year term. Employment in this position beyond that term is not guaranteed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Coordinate all aspects of on-site and virtual Professional Development programs including daily logistics, scheduling, interdepartmental and participant communication, and classroom calendar reservations.
  • Travel to New Jersey schools, meetings, and conferences to increase participation in programs.
  • Monitor program-related inventory, supply organization, and furniture needs, assist with placing supply orders and coordinating with IT for Education Center maintenance.
  • Support the Assistant Manager of Education Programs with development, scheduling and implementation of new staff training.
  • Work with Manager and Assistant Manager of Education Programs on data management, program evaluation, and drafting reports.
  • Serve as liaison between Education Specialists and department’s managerial staff.
  • Make other presentations on behalf of the Museum, including at external conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide on-site logistical support across programs, troubleshooting as needed.

REQUIRED SUPPORT FOR ORGANIZATIONAL EVENTS 

  • Participate in the Annual 5K Fundraiser and September 11th Commemoration.  
  • Assist with other special projects and events in support of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum mission, as assigned   

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILL REQUIREMENTS 

  • College degree required; advanced degree preferred. 
  • At least three years’ experience leading or coordinating Museum education programs, preferably for school audiences. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with museum education concepts, pedagogy, and best practices. 
  • Basic familiarity with 9/11 history desirable but not required.  
  • Highly organized, able to organize details and schedules. 
  • Self-starter, takes initiative, works well independently. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including telephone, interpersonal, and written skills. 
  • Able to interact professionally and appropriately with staff, volunteers, and the public. 
  • Ability to organize and facilitate meetings. 
  • Command of a second language preferred.
  • Driver’s license preferred, but not required. 
  • Able to work some weekends and evenings as needed. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook calendaring, and relevant database software. 
  • Able to prioritize continually shifting tasks; reliable and able to follow tasks through to completion in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to accept guidance, direction, and supervision; able to give feedback and share ideas appropriately and professionally. 
  • Must adhere to a policy of strict confidentiality in terms of information regarding 9/11 victims, bid documents, security and life safety incidents, and labor relations.

The work environment is an indoor, climate-controlled office environment comprised of cubicles, walled-offices and group conference rooms. The noise level in the office environment is usually low. There are no protective devices necessary to be worn or utilized in the office work environment. Minimal travel is required.
