POSITION OVERVIEW

This Applications Analyst will be responsible for managing and maintaining the software applications of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. This position will work closely with the in-house Digital Asset Manager who will sit in the Collections department to select, procure, and install an organizational Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution that will be used primarily to house the various digital assets of the Museum. This Applications Analyst will report to the VP of Systems Development and Applications in the IT Department.

The Applications Analyst will also work closely with the in-house developers, the server administration team, external consultants, and with internal departments in managing, maintaining, applying the critical software updates, and upgrading and patching the DAM software. The Application Analyst will routinely run the required tests to make sure that the software is compliant and is configured accurately for staff use within the organization. Remote work is supported up to two days per week or as approved by the position’s supervisor. This is a full-time, four-year position with the possibility of renewal.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s permanent collection is an unparalleled repository consisting of material evidence, first-person testimony, and historical records of the response to the February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and their ongoing repercussions. To date, the Museum has acquired more than 74,000 tangible and digital objects that document the experiences of 9/11 victims, survivors, and responders. The Museum also collects paper-based and digital archives and has begun to assemble an institutional archive documenting the organization’s history. In addition to this, there are various assets stored on the Museum’s NFS shares, various CMSs, and servers that the DAM would need to plug into to as well. This is a Leon Levy Grant Funded position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage the applications of the organization and work with product owners, third party vendors, and external consultants to resolve bugs and issues.
  • Work very closely with the Digital Asset Manager in maintaining the DAM application and play a key role in the identification, procurement, and deployment of the DAM solution.
  • Identify all the key digital assets of the Museum and produce clean documentation to present to stakeholders all the different assets that the DAM software can be used for.
  • Work with Digital Asset Manager in putting together a Request for Proposal (RFP) to invite proposals from DAM vendors and set up meetings between departments and present the various options and assist in shortlisting the proposal candidates before the finalization of the approved DAM vendor.
  • Work closely with IT to ensure the DAM software has the necessary storage configured and ensure that the data is backed up routinely and can be retrieved as necessary.
  • Identify the high-priority content for ingestion by working alongside the key stakeholders and create a detailed plan for routine ingestion of data into the DAM solution.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues regarding the applications and work alongside the IT Staff in the analysis and implementation of the fix.
  • Routinely audit the applications to discuss any needed updates with the IT Staff.
  • Create, document, and manage test plans, test cases, and automation scripts.
  • Create and update technical documentation for the supported applications and assist with new product launches.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIREMENT

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Science or equivalent.
  • Experience with configuring and maintaining DAM applications is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Content Management systems is a plus.
  • 2+ years working with the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP).
  • Strong Unix/Linux skills.
  • Proficiency/experience in some of the programming languages such as PHP and Python.
  • Experience working with Linux operating systems.
  • Experience working with relational and object-oriented databases such as MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB etc.
  • Experience working with APIs to integrate various systems is a plus.
  • Experience working with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Excellent project management and organizational, follow-through and communication skills, including proven ability to multitask, make decisions, and adhere to project timelines.
  • Experience working with Github.
  • Ability to pick up new technologies with ease.

  • Assists with other special projects and events in support of all 9/11 Memorial and Museum, as assigned.
