POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Sales Manager will oversee the daily operations of the 9/11 Memorial retail locations; The museum store, café, audio guide program and retail carts on the memorial plaza. The Assistant Sales Manager’s duties will include; partnering with the Retail Operations Store Manager, leading new staff orientation, guest service training, supervising and evaluating staff; Counterpoint financial reporting; opening, mid and closing shifts; maintenance and restocking of displays; answering guest questions specific to products and exhibitions; assisting with physical inventory counts and facilitating special events. The Assistant Sales Manager will supervise the Retail Supervisors and staff at each retail location. This position will report to the Retail Operations Store Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitor and interpret results on key performance indicators to help drive sales and achieve sales goals. KPI’s include: Average Dollar Transaction, Traffic, Conversion Rate, Sales Per Hour and Capture Rate.
  • Responsible for achieving retail sales/profit goals set by the company on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
  • Collaborate with Retail Operations Store Manager to drive revenue.
  • Coach and Develop Sales Associates to provide outstanding visitor experience.
  • Actively interact with visitors to provide excellent guest service, answer questions knowledgably. Have a floor presence and lead by example.
  • Supervise all F/T, P/T Associates, Volunteers, Interns and Supervisors including: preparing long term schedules ensuring that all locations are sufficiently staffed always.
  • Ensure that associates actively interact with guests to provide excellent guest service, answer questions knowledgably and sell store merchandise.
  • Communicate effectively to retail staff and senior team
  • Supervise and train staff on all aspect of retail, operations, guest service and policies & procedures.
  • Open/close store/café/AG desk/carts, including preparations of cash drawers, collecting donations and preparing daily deposits as needed.
  • Accurately handle payment management including cash, credit cards and traveler’s checks.
  • Participate in weekly analysis meeting to identify trends in product performance.
  • Analyze reports provided by the buying team. Look for sales reports in Counterpoint to help achieve daily goals.
  • Work with Store leaders and Buyers to utilize sales reporting to determine visual floor set.
  • Use sales data to suggest promotions and team incentives to drive sales.
  • Maintain Associate and Supervisors feedback logs up to date.
  • Communicate effectively to all leaders, staff including volunteers and interns.
  • Partner with Retail Operations Store Manager to develop and coach Supervisors for career growth.
  • Assist Retail Operations Store Manager in hiring best talent.
  • Responsible for cash office paperwork. Must meet audit standards. Must ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure donations goals for Carts, Cafe and Museum store are reached daily.
  • Responsible for monitoring, reviewing and submitting electronic employee timesheets. Must ensure payroll is completed and approved on time.
  • Assist with Retail Operations Store Manager with the maintenance and upkeep of all visuals of the stores.
  • Understand all Human Resource policies ensuring staff is well informed and in compliance with all employee policies and benefits.

  • Assist the Retail Operations Store Manager with inventory management including full and partial physical inventory counts conducted throughout the year.
  • Ensuring our mission here at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum is demonstrated through our service to our guests daily.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

  • Participates in the Annual 5K Fundraiser and 9/11 Commemoration, as assigned.
  • Assists with other special projects and events in support of all 9/11 Memorial and Museum, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a high volume retail sales location.
  • Must have excellent customer service and inventory skills.
  • Must be a highly responsible, reliable and accurate individual skills.
  • Must be familiar with POS systems.
  • Fluency with one language other than English a plus.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
  • Physically capable of lifting heavy boxes up to 40 lbs. and be capable of standing for long hours.

The work environment is an indoor, climate-controlled retail environment comprised of displays, artifacts, and inventory stock rooms. There are no protective devices to be worn or utilized in the retail work environment.
