POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Retail Associate at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, you will play a key role in creating a memorable and respectful experience for visitors from around the world. This is an opportunity to work in a deeply meaningful setting, where you’ll not only deliver exceptional customer service but also be a part of honoring and preserving the legacy of 9/11, ensuring every visitor’s experience is impactful and respectful. In this position, you’ll be responsible for the daily operations of the Museum store, café, outdoor carts, and Audio Guide Desk.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proactively greet and welcome visitors, providing excellent customer service in the retail areas which include the Museum Store, Café, Audio Guide desk and Retail Carts on the Memorial.
- Cultivate a strong knowledge of products and brand storytelling to enhance visitor interactions and sales.
- Remain mobile and engaged with customers on the sales floor, ready to assist with product inquiries or needs.
- Encourage mission support by asking for donations.
- Ensure the store, café, and retail cart areas are clean, organized, and visually presentable to visitors.
- Foster a positive and professional work environment by collaborating with team members from across the organization
- Uphold institutional policies and procedures while maintaining outstanding customer service.
- Accurately process transactions, including cash and credit card payments, following all financial and organizational policies.
- Assist with receiving deliveries, unpacking, organizing stock, ensuring timely replenishment, and performing inventory and cycle counts.
- Communicate any operational or customer service challenges promptly to management for resolution.
ASSOCIATES ARE EXPECTED TO
- Work part-time, 16-29 hours per week
- Work weekends and holidays
- Wear a museum-issued uniform
- Work both outdoors on the memorial and indoors at the museum in all weather
- Stand for long hours
- Take direction from Supervisors and Managers
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Be comfortable working with a diverse international public in a busy environment
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- 1-3 years’ experience in retail store sales
- Excellent customer/guest service skills
- Highly responsible and reliable
- Ability to work both as part of a productive team and independently

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to see, be mobile, and have the ability for 2-way communication with the public and staff. The employee will be required to stand for long hours and be able to lift heavy boxes up to 40 lbs.
The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings, and while the noise level is generally low, you'll find that it’s a relaxed and comfortable place to work. There are no special protective devices required in the retail environment.
