Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has sought to diversify the state’s economy and promote the kingdom as open and forward-looking. Yet, recent events, including the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and increased attention on Saudi involvement in the Yemeni Civil War, have undermined this effort. American Enterprise Institute scholar Karen E. Young and journalist Hassan Hassan discussed Saudi Arabia’s current sociopolitical and economic climate.
