Description

Ruin: Jasperware clay (stoneware). This piece was made using tracings and enlargements from an original photograph of the trade tower ruin. The template drawing was then traced onto a slab of clay that was cut and defined further and then cast in plaster. The plaster negative was then filled with the jasper clay where it was detailed further into its finished state. The same process was used for the base and the pieces were assembled. In order to control the warping and cracking of the clay an elaborate soft brick structure was built around the piece for each firing.
Ruin is made from a rediscovered 18th century formula for Wedgwood
