Description

TRIPTYCH was painted in tandem with composer Robert Sirota to commemorate the victims of September 11. The first painting/movement, "Desecration", is an abstract depiction of the literal attack on the towers. In the central panel, the body of father Mychal Judge, a chaplain for the NYPD and the first victim of the tragedy, is carried by a group of firefighters into a nearby church where they laid his body at the altar. The piece uses this as inspiration for its central slow movement, "Lamentation." The third movement, "Prayer", offers some way forward, inspired by the painting's abstract right panel where light manages to shine into the darkness.

Triptych was premiered by the Chiara String Quartet at Trinity Church, Wall Street in New York City on September 26, 2002 and has been performed by string quartets throughout the U.S. and the world.
