Description

These sketches were made from the roof of Cooper Union where Graham Shane's glass on Urban matters sat watching the burning towers. In the beginning none of us had any idea they would fall. I saw glitter swirling through the air amid the smoke, and slowly realized it was papers blowing through windows of offices.
When the first tower fell I was dumbstruck and just kept drawing through it, adding up numbers - how many people per floor times how many floors...
Then I started to notice that the large objects coming out from the upper burning floors were actually people. That's when I sketched the drawing at right, the black gash is the entry point for the plane that took down the second tower. I didn't manage to catch any of the bodies on the page.
