My post September 11 painting is one of hope and renewal.
The train is again running underneath the former Trade Center. Above the subway is a mosaic by Roy Lichtenstein depicting the subway of the future. On top rests the future memorial park with the original footprints of the lost buildings. My interpretation of the future buildings is based on various sketches that had been submitted. On the bottom left is a pile of detritus of mostly cars. I have included some toy car pieces to the mass. Rising above is the new glass winter garden. Smoke is curling and rising to the top and evolving into a cloud like Phoenix, the Greek symbol for renewal. Lady Liberty stands proudly holding a 3D apple, which is the symbol of New York City. The clouds over her head spell out I Love New York.
