This is the central vehicle of the interactive sculpture, "Many Thousands Gone." On it stand three "figures" shackled with heavy steel bands. The vehicle can only move in the same circle ... over and over and over. Around this and at a short distance stand six "witness figures". People drive nails into the wood as a prayer, a vow, a blessing, or in remembrance of a person or an event in which there was the willful violation of another being. May the closed fist of violence become the open hand of mercy.
