Description

The mixed-medium work "343" by the prominent Dutch abstract expressionist artist Erik Adriaan van der Grijn was featured as the catalogue cover for his 2011 exhibition "9/11 Un Requiem" in Buenos Aires. The picture memorializes the 343 firefighters who valiantly lost their lives in the attack on the World Trade Center towers.
Van der Grijn has painted several works related to the disaster, including one very large work more than 8' in height and consisting of 11 panels (mixed-medium on canvas).
In 2011, the painting was welcomed by the New York City Fire Museum (official museum of the FDNY) as the gift of Aimen and Mary Caro Cannon. It is on display in the 9/11 Memorial Rom at The Fire Museum, which occupies a renovated 1904 Beaux Arts firehouse located at 278 Spring Street in the Soho section of Manhattan.
