Description

The artwork is a collage showing the New York City skyline, but the most important part of the piece is the free verse poem that appears where the Twin Towers once stood.

I began creating the work as I witnessed the events of 9/11 unfold on television. Watching for hours, I was mesmerized as image after image filled my mind.

I wanted to keep a journal of the day's events, but single words and phrases were all I could manage. The words seemed poetic, and over the next few days, I created "September 11, 2001."

I'm pleased to submit this artwork as a tribute to the workers who died and the firemen, policemen, and others who gave their lives, enabling thousands to escape from the World Trade Center.
