Description

The flag you see pictured is the result of a four month project I along with over one hundred children and youth counselors from the Cary Family YMCA. The idea to create a flag with the handprints of every child who was enrolled in the Tracking Out Program. With the assistance of youth counselors and countless others, this oversized flag was intrical part in the healing process of each person behind the handprint. With each stitch, each can of paint, roller and hand, brought each handprint into something special. The flag as it grew in number also came into focus with local media running stories on the story and message behind the flag. I felt it was up to the individual to draw their own interpretation of such a massive project. After months of hard work, I along with three counselors drove the flag from North Carolina directly to the firefighters of Engine 54 Ladder 4. We presented the flag on behalf of all those children whose handprints were united as one to those the weekend before the one year anniversary of 9/11.
