Beautiful towers touching the sky

Why did so many have to die?

Little did they know they would be

Martyrs for the cause of liberty.

Magnificent city of my birth,

Heartbroken, shattered, crumbling to earth;

Microcosm of humanity,

Your beacon still shines for the world to see.

The terrorists tried to destroy us forever,

But we shall defeat them by joining together.

The World Trade Center attacked on T.V.,

Who would believe what we would see.

Soon the twin towers fell to the ground

With a deafening, thunderous sound;

Courageous New Yorkers cried and trembled,

Oh, how Manhattan a war zone resembled!

In minutes we watched peace turn into war,

The death toll reached three thousand or more;

They crashed into the Pentagon in D.C.,

To finish their terrorist killing spree.

They hijacked a jet to hit Air Force One,

Brave passengers fought them off and won;

But they crashed on Pennsylvania’s ground,

The Capitol remained safe and sound.

New York City, your skyline does not look the same,

But our love for you will always remain.

The whole world is sharing your sorrow and pain,

Let’s hope for a time when true peace will reign.

The worst attack on American soil,

Our country’s freedom they cannot spoil;

No matter what they may think or believe,

United we stand, together we grieve.
