Description

The diptych represents the two towers. The children's bodies represent the innocence of those that lost their lives. Here they are being lifted by invisible angels. The scene of nature is meant to be peaceful but is also representational of California coastal landscape where I live. I thought that even though we were so far from the event the emotional loss reached across the whole country. So, I left it as our landscape. The two pieces have a print around the edges from an Iranian print block. An American, I lived there as a child. And for me the events and geography intertwine. It is a story of the US and the Middle East. Perhaps, somewhere, somehow seeing the whole of it, peace can be found. The strength of this piece lies in it scale. It was painted epically large to hold a powerful image of reverence.
