Description

The first name of each victim from the World Trade Center site was machine embroidered using a free motion technique onto squares of silk organza. Squares were stacked on either side of a center column of organza and secured in place using two pieces of wire whose ends protrude out either side of the piece. This work was intended capture the moment of collapse of the buildings, to honor the victims of this tragedy, and to visually represent the scale of the loss of life. When displayed, the height of the columns can be adjusted according to the height of the display space, though at any height the volume of material makes a strong impression.
