© 2011 Jerry W. McDaniel /// Painting created on 9/12/2011 /// This painting is from the rectangle series of abstract expressionist paintings by heterogeneous American artist Jerry W. McDaniel. He painted it the day after the World Trade Center was destroyed by planes. President George Bush made the statement “America has been attacked!” The Daily News reported that there were 85 different nationalities which were subjected to this horror. The artist researched these nationalities since he believed that “The world has been attacked!”. The flags in the windows of the towers in the painting represent those 85 nationalities with their stars reaching for Heavens. The reason for which the strip of acronyms NYFD and NYPD are in the lower part of the composition is to express the fact that that was the extent that the Fire Department and the Police Department could reach, the 20th floor. In fact these buildings were doomed from the get go in case of fire. We are able to go on the moon, and yet cannot solve issues on this earth: terrorism, fire. The numbers 911 are in the composition coming and going from front to back in big black typography. This painting was shown at the Museum of American Illustration - Society of Illustrators, New York City. NY, in the group show “Memorial Exhibition Prevailing Human Spirit 9/11” sponsored by the New York Times. It was also presented in three McDaniel solo shows: at I. C. ART Gallery (September 3 -October3, 2011), Palm Springs, CA, the “LOOK AT ME” exhibition at the Valley Performance Art Center (VPAC), California State University Northridge (CSUN) (September 18 – October 22, 2013, http://www.jerrywmcdanielstudios.com/VPAC/Brochure_VPAC.pdf); and the I. C. ART event in Encino, CA, on June 14, 2015.
