The 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s Education Department is pleased to announce a new partnership with Share My Lesson, a free lesson-sharing website funded by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
Created in 2012, Share My Lesson helps provide educators across the country with high-quality and effective lesson plans and professional development resources that cover a variety of topics and serve multiple grade levels. As of 2020, Share My Lesson has 1.7 million members and more than 420,000 resources which have been downloaded more than 14 million times.
As one of the newest Share My Lesson partners, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum has already shared a variety of resources that have been viewed more than 600 times. They include dynamic, interactive lesson plans for students in grades 3–12, a video archive of first-person stories and accompanying viewing guides, as well as interactive timelines and online collections. More resources will be shared on a bi-weekly basis.
In addition to sharing a wealth of resources through its partner page, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will also share its expertise by participating in the 2021 Share My Lesson Virtual Conference on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Assistant Director of Education Programs Jennifer Lagasse and Assistant Manager of Youth & Family Programs Meredith Ketchmark will lead a session focused on looking back on historical crisis as an example of navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic. The session will also explore how empathy can deepen historical inquiry and aid in the discussion of current events in the social studies classroom.
