Description

This is a band arrangement intertwining TAPS with the Star Spangled Banner. It begins with two percussive hits representing the trade towers. Then a solo statement of the opening theme of TAPS is played by a trumpet. A flute solo initiates a plaintiff winds thoughtful and somber reflection of, "Oh, say can we see...." When the rockets red glare is announced the brass take over with a brilliant declaration. "Gave proof through the night..." returns to the woodwinds. A very Sousa-ish statement of "Oh, say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave...." pronounces glorious hope. "The land of the free..." is left hanging with the sound of the chime before the closing phrase of TAPS is blown. The piece returns to quiet reflection as it ends.
