The Wound (La Blessure) 2021 by Michel R Lalonde, Visual Art - Designer Triptych, 52” x 18’, Acrylic, mixed technics on Yupo paper mounted on wooden frame. What is hiding in the message of that deadly fall of this man? What it’s meaning for us, the silences of those anonymous victims? What are they telling us? And why could we be quiet about it? We don’t forget seeing the horrific death-dealing “pantomime” live worldwide! Here, I try and dare to give to that silence, a voice. A voice to the wounded doves

STRATIVARIUSART

COLLECTIONS, AN INNOVATIVE ART FORM CREATED BY Nouvelleimage.JPG

What is unique about the

Strati-Varius Art?

Beyond an all new and traditional art approach, I search and develop my own original ways. An innovative art technique is  to my knowledge  an unusual one, and without comparison in the art world.

Strati-Varius Art was  born from an accidental situation. In the nineties, I was working with dry pastel (powder and crayons) on different papers.

In 2012, while  looking in my drawer's file, I found and reviewed over sixty pastel artworks which  look different now.  I found  they did not relate  to me anymore. Big problem for me! I asked myself what should I do with them?

I could not give them away, neither put them in the trash  nor burn them! No, I could not do that, it would mean to throw away that period of my life! After praying and thinking hard, I had a flash, I took one of my artworks, put it on my table and at that instant, I had a crazy idea, I took a cutter knife and I sliced the whole drawing in stratum (bands or ribbons or stripes)!

That foolish act of mine, has opened me to an all new, world  of  a visual art form! A really good surprise.

In doing so, I created  numerous stratum (stripes), this Strati-Varius Art offered me a wide and infinite range of possibilities to play with different positions of those stratum, this principal has been  repeated since then through my actual art.

After playing with the stratum positioning, a brand new artwork is born from the old one! Remember the Phoenix legend story! And from an old drawing stratification, a re-born artwork came  to life. The old destructed original drawing no longer exist !

My artistic approach can be visually sober or paradoxically, it can also explode in colors, textures and shapes. Graphically vibrant, my artwork stimulates the imagination  of the observer and engages  all passionate enquiring minds.

The same observer, at the same time is intrigued also understands and likes artists who take  the risk of crossing over new frontiers in his art form. Sky is his limit! Also, I respect my fellow artists in their own approach, but I believe this  type of work and my artistic approach do not correspond to other recognized visual art techniques.

Vive la différence”

My artworks show a new statement in the field, a new way to do things! Each one is designed with stratum from an original drawing (or artwork). The drawing stratification gives me completely new vision of what the artwork will look like at the end of the conceptual phase.

For me, every result of this process is a pleasure.  It is an extraordinary emotion and surprise to see it rising from the original drawing to a completely new and final picture.

That is why I named the process STRATI -VARIUS, this unique artistic approach and this  new technique of mine. This name is also a reference to the great violinmaker "Stradivarius" and it describes very well what Strati-Varius is about.

The diminutive word "STRATI" stands for the stratification in many stratum(stripes) of the original artwork, and the diminutive word "VARIUS" stands for the infinite composition possibilities that the technique represents and serves my imagination.

They are a continuation of my technical principles which still inspire my imagination today. Since 2014, all my works are made on TerraSkin a mineral paper. It is a natural white stone paper mounted on hard wooden panel and today on Yupo paper (no more available Terraskin in large format).

The stratification of the drawing and the positioning of each stratum (or stripe), will always be important in all conceptual phases.
