    Statement of Work

On September 11th, 2001, Ms. Vargas-Dekker, an expressionist painter, was alone in her studio in TriBeCa and witnessed the attack on the WTC. Immediately following the attack, she was unable to work because she could only think about the events of 9/11. She painted the flag as a means to express her grief and pay tribute to the victims; after she painted the flag, she was able to begin working again.

The flag's red stripes and a couple spots on its blue field of stars are marked with about 15-20 notes from passers-by from a day in 2002 when Ms. Vargas-Dekker brought the flag down to the WTC site and invited people to write their thoughts on it.
