    Lunar 911
    A 58-piece collection of work

    Artist Statement

Lunar 911 is the quest for peace in the aftermath of trauma.

The lunar collection was conceived following the 911 disaster that I witnessed right in my back yard. I was at once profoundly stunned, hurt, fearful and angry. I was mute. The overwhelming horror struck at my very core.

The Lunar series began as my therapy but in its creation it became a vehicle to spread a veil of peace and protection over the entire world. I wanted to create something beautiful and powerful that makes people feel better and promotes a kind of serenity – a place of healing.

Sometimes one must reach for the heavens to rise just a few feet from the earth. Lunar 911 is the creation of another plane of existence, another dimension where all disturbed souls (including those left behind) can rest, heal and gain wisdom. In this plane, we embrace the knowledge of our true and endless connection to all life and each other.

The work cycles through key pieces that have distinct meaning

Redemption — The lace of harmony; a flower of all souls both free and bound to earth rejoice in their reformation.

Shell — The gathering converges the spirits as one. Depicts our unity, our connection.

Eye — As the spirits pass through the eye of knowledge the vision of their oneness leads to rebirth

Serenity— A congregation of the spirits meet in the serenity of light

Path — The path leading to rebirth where all unite and rebuild.

This 56- piece series can be viewed as one entity in a PowerPoint presentation or QuickTime movie (accompanied by music) or displayed individually in any size, on any surface including a backlit format.

    Resume

Lucia’s mother was white and her father was black. In today’s world, that builds character. In the 1950s, it created character. Yet that unique heritage is only one aspect of Lucia’s profoundly conflicted life to influence her art. Each journey she’s taken has been an effort to simultaneously explore her nature and to escape it. These psychologically divergent pursuits have driven her to all corners of the globe manifesting itself in a desire to photograph the world she sees and then manipulate it into the world she feels.

Lucia is a self-taught artist who honed her skills while working with various NYC consulting firms. In 2000, she dedicated her energies on a full-time basis to her art. Some pieces are for collectors, museums and galleries, while others will enhance homes, restaurants, stores and places of business. Doctors and hospitals have used her work in color and child therapy. She has many worldwide and private collectors in Australia, France, Italy, and throughout the States, many of which are doctors and therapists.

Lucia recently closed her largest solo exhibit at the Lafayette Grill in Tribecca, NYC. She is presently curating their future art exhibits. June – Sept. 2004 she had a solo exhibit at Yaffe Ruden Gallery, NYC. That same year she was part of an exhibit entitled “Vibrations 2004” in Flushing Town Hall which gathered together artist and poets alike. She also received an award from the Queens Health Network and the Queens Council on the Arts for her work exhibited at Elmhurst Hospital during Women’s History Month.

2003 Lucia showed at Blue Turtle Gallery, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Feb-Apr she had a solo exhibition in NYC at Midoma of 37 pieces in various styles, textures, and media. The Aboriginal Art Gallery, Fifth Avenue, NYC took her work on consignment. Federated Department Stores purchased her designs for dinnerware patterns. Since 1999 she has sold countless card collections of her series work. She also collaborated on the design of 10 CD covers for VereseSarabande.

Lucia’s work can be viewed in the archives of the Museum of Modern Art and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center.

Lucia presently works from her studio in Sunnyside where she continues to experiment with new techniques for commissioned work to enhance living, work or public environments. Installation art in private homes has been in the form of vinyl wall murals, fabric, and illuminated lighting.
