    Statement of Work

My work has been inspired by the events of September 11, 2001 and the experiences that followed my personal loss that day. My brother, Patrick Danahy, worked in the south tower of the World Trade Center. Like so many others, he did not make it home to his young family that day. My paintings attempt to reflect the range of emotions experienced on that day and in the weeks and months afterward. In particular I focus on the contrasts of: light and dark, gesture painting and drawing, and color selection. These represent joy and grief, hope and despair, good and evil, which existed side by side in stark contrast during and after 9/11/01. My goal is to evoke emotion in the viewer through the juxtaposition of opposing elements in the paintings.
