    Statement of Work

On the morning of Sept. 15, 2001, four days after the attack on the Trade Center, I finally prevailed upon my friend Mike Lennon, retired FDNY, to take me down to "The Pit" as I was desperate to help out with the rescue and recovery efforts. I am a photographer, so naturally I had my camera with me. Every once in awhile I would take the camera out of my pocket and shoot something. The action, the smoke, the wreckage, the dust, the noise of the machinery, the rescue workers frantically pulling apart pieces of twisted steel, digging for all they were worth in the hope of finding someone alive- there was drama unfolding before my eyes 24/7. The horror of finding bones and pieces of bodies- this is what the bombed out cities of WWII must have been like. The frustration of not finding anyone alive never deterred anyone for a second, and the camaraderie of the workers and the helpers was tremendous. I was never prouder of my countrymen and women. A day never to be forgotten.

    Still Photographer

I‘ve been using a camera ever since I can remember, and somewhere I still have the tattered old Brownie that was given to me by my uncle when I was 10. When I got my first digital camera many years ago it seemed to set off sparks in my brain. I became a photographer then, instead of just a person taking photographs.

Since then I have worked professionally as a website, portrait and product photographer, and as a Still Photographer on many films and documentaries. I have had shows of my work at galleries, libraries and universities throughout the U.S. A selection of my pictures from the World Trade Center disaster, entitled, “Beyond Ground Zero” is on permanent exhibition at the Fire Museum in New York City.

My first Still Photographer job was on a documentary shot in Egypt in 1999, entitled, “A Hole in Time”, which was bought by the History Channel. Next I worked on several independent films, “The Chumley Factor”, which won awards at indie festivals, then “Mooks”- a lighted hearted mobster flic. Then I served as the Still Photographer and Associate Producer on “Entourage”, which earned a selection at the IFP in 2000. I was the Still Photographer on Mike Lennon's award-winning Ground Zero documentary, “Brothers…on Holy Ground” in 2002.

Samples of my work can be seen on my website, lenman.smugmug.com.
