Raleigh Schein spent the early years of her art career involved in the creation and production of commercial art across a wide range of advertising medium, from print to broadcast to displays. After many years in advertising agencies, she lead the Advertising Art Department of the Washington Post and went on to be one of the founding members of washingtonpost.com.  Throughout those successful, creative, and ground breaking professional endeavors, she continued to pursue her personal creative vision, including adding to her accomplishments a Masters of Fine Art degree in painting from the American University in Washington, DC.

Her work includes paintings on canvas, watercolors, pencil/pastel drawings, furnishings and objets d’art. Many of her works are portraits, both people and animal, where she builds her compositions with layered brush strokes of expressive color.  Whether it is in one of her portraits, land, or seascapes, she focuses on translating the vitality before her.  She says of her work, “One of my goals through the process of drawing and painting my subjects is to find and pull forward an aspect of their spirit and bring it to life. This pursuit is what makes painting so compelling for me as well as very satisfying when the client or patron recognizes that in the work.”

Today, Ms. Schein incorporates the lessons of her fine art training with the disciplines of the commercial art world in her work.  She paints in her large, contemporary studio nestled in the woods of Crownsville, Maryland.  Raleigh Schein’s work is in over forty private and corporate collections.  Her work can be seen in the gallery space adjacent to her studio and on-line at www.raleighschein.com.  She is available for personal commissions.
