I have been writing poetry for about 30 years. I believe in order to write a good poem, you need to be especially moved by the events that inspired it. Our nation was caught up in many emotions following the attacks of September 11th, 2001. For me personally, it was fear. I have a son who was serving in the army at that time. Ultimately, he was deployed. It was during his deployment that I wrote this particular piece. I have written many other poems since, but this remains my favorite.
