    Statement of Work

Much of my artwork is created on location, and explores the complexity of the urban environment, both graphically through the geometric relationships of a man-made infrastructure, and emotionally by depicting the effects and conditions which this environment creates for the community. It also offers some insight into how we think, feel, and react to the events of our time.

After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, painting and sketching on location for me became a way of interacting with people in the community at a time when we were all trying to absorb what had happened. There was a strong emotional urgency felt throughout the country to help those most affected, and it created a very powerful bond which brought people together. The visual scars of the city's skyline were a reminder of a much deeper emotional impact, but it was the strength and character of the people which remained an unbreakable foundation for the future.
