    Statement of Work

Channelling strong emotions and feelings, I was totally inspired to create “Playing Equality” as to honor the memories of those who have left. Like most of my high scale pieces, Play Equality is an interactive gigantic sculpture, through which I invite everyone to experiment and share emotions. It represents the dichotomy between words and deeds, between good and evil and virtues and beliefs against human hypocrisy.
It consists of 20 steel and glass made cubes stacked one above the other and able to reflect light. Four faces are engraved with the words of the concepts of the human rights: Piece, Equality, Justice, Fraternity and Tolerance and the other two faces with impressive black and white photos in red glass and light representing facts against the human rights. The public is invited to reflect upon the empathy in contrast with hostility.

    Resume

    Bio:

Since the beginning of the 80's that Portuguese artist Julio Quaresma has been exhibiting his works, rediscovering art and reinventing the system of values linked to establishment. His work predominantly features clarity, logic, and order, and favors line over color and often gives a contradictory edge to bodies without a face, emphasizing the unity of pure being more than the voidness. He deals with social realities that are polemic.
Being sculptor and a painter he owns a rigorous work and a wise drawing. His artwork creates a social environment in which people come together to participate in a shared activity. Each painting combines canvas, wood, metal, oil, cloth and each one has its important role. Julio Quaresma has never exhaust experimentalism. On the contrary, his perfection on canvas gives also place to words to balance the master-piece of the artist. An exhibition, where words can talk, and silence runs.
For over three decades that Julio Quaresma has had many solo and collective exhibitions and retrospectives in reputable museums and galleries, and numerous Institutes of Arts in Portugal and around the world.
