Artist's Statement
Statement of Work
Through exploration of color and its effects on the mind, as well as experimentation in mixed media, Ryan Stroup has created a mélange of works which include paintings, ceramics, and sculptures. His art has been materialized in a variety of sizes ranging from miniatures to very large paintings which require an entire wall. Many of his works portray great depth and several have also played with optical 3-D illusions. Nonetheless, Ryan’s work always has contained great attention to detail, no matter how subtle.
Ryan has shown in galleries throughout central Pennsylvania, including 2nd Floor Gallery, Gallerie 13, the former 10th Muse, Art Association of Harrisburg, Freehand Gallery, Lancaster Museum of Art, and various other venues. In 2004, Ryan relocated to Philadelphia where he exhibited a summer long solo exhibit in Galeria EsArte. In December 2006, Ryan had a major solo exhibit at 33 N. 3rd St. in Philadelphia’s Old City, as part of UWISHUNU’s artist showcase series. Ryan’s work has also been shown at Art Jaz, Absolute Abstract, numerous charity auctions, cafés, and retail stores in the area, and was affiliated with the Christopher Loftus Project. Ryan’s work can also be seen regularly at the 2nd Floor Gallery in Mechanicsburg, PA, The Unknown Artist in Annapolis, MD, and Nestology in King of Prussia, PA.
