    Statement of Work

When I sat down to do a painting commemorating 911, the first thing that came to mind was the beautiful clear blue sky that day which I wanted to capture in my work. I printed out all the names of the victims knowing that if I saw the individual names it would help me feel closer to them and feel, in a small way, their family's pain which I wanted to express with the paint. This painting is meant to show my respect to all those lost that day as well as to their surviving loved ones.

    Art Studio and Gallery

I am a self-taught artist and have been painting for 30 years. My main focus is oil painting landscapes and florals in an abstract/impressionistic form. I also do some water colors, digital photography, and sculpture. Art for me is a journey that consists of not being afraid to try many different techniques and ways of expressing myself through my work. I believe that you should go your own direction with your art and not let others place you in a box. Don’t be afraid to experiment. I admire a lot of artist’s work, but I don’t want to paint like them. I want people to look at my work and know it was done by Larry Ney II, not a copy of someone else’s style. I am proud of my accomplishments and work hard to promote my work whenever possible.
I have participated in Bloomsburg’s juried ArtFest since it’s inception three years ago. I also participated in Bloomsburg’s ArtWalk for the past three years as well as the Columbia-Montour Covered Bridge and Arts Festival for the past two years.

I currently serve as Vice President of the North Mountain Art League (NMAL). As a member of the League, my work has been shown twice at Representative David Millard’s three offices located in Bloomsburg, Berwick and Harrisburg; twice at the Bloomsburg Multi County Land Abstract Company; the Columbia County Courthouse; The Northumberland County Council on the Arts Center of Shamokin (a juried show); the Bloomsburg Childrens Museum; the Bloomsburg Fair; and Bloomsburg’s ArtSpace Gallery. I organized the first ever NMAL show at the Moose Exchange this past March where 21 League members participated and exhibited 41 pieces of work. This show will be held annually.

In 2009 my work was exhibited at the Manley-Bohlayer Heritage Farm in Canton (PA). I have exhibited paintings at Katie’s Country Store and Art Gallery in Williamsport for the past four years. My paintings were also included in a show at Ken’s Cattails two years ago. My work has been on exhibit at Whitmoyer Art Studio and Gallery in Iola . In 2010, I participated in the Three Ponds Golf Club Fall Harvest Wine Festival in Elysburg.

My private shows have included Whitmoyer Art Studio and Gallery, the Northern Columbia County Community Center in Benton, Katie’s Country Store and Art Gallery in Williamsport for three years, and most currently the Stairwell Gallery at the Bloomsburg Moose Exchange. I had the most sales ever for a single event during the show at the Northern Columbia County Community Center.

My web site and on-line galleries include www.larry-ney-ii.artistwebsites.com, and www.larryney.etsy.com

I work in two locations--a studio in my home as well as the Bloomsburg Moose Exchange where I offer my paintings for sale along with offering oil painting classes. I hold regular Exchange studio hours on Friday evenings, Saturday, some Sundays, and also by appointment.
