9/11: The Day and The Evening After

On September 11, 2001, I was overwhelmed with a myriad of emotions as the Earth stood still in silence. The Day was filled with chaos, uncertainty and fear. The Evening After, I observed how the world was united and became one.

The impact of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, ignited a creative energy that compelled me to produce this epic work. It has been a 10-year Artistic Memorial Reflecting the unforgettable and catastrophic September 11. Sketching and creating The Day and the Evening After has been a long personal artistic journey. In its early stages and for many years the semi-painted sketch remained untouched. Patiently and methodically over the years the sketch was reworked and recongfigured. As I further reflected upon it, I came to realize that this artistic campaign was heavily inspired by the heroic spirits of First Responders. The effort to capture the reality of this historic and horrific American travesty centered on them. Still immersed, I soon realize I was living and breathing this campaign daily. A decade passed.

    About the Production

The Day and the Evening After measures 9′ x 11′ tall. The installation utilizes a reflective material that represents water, it reflects the tragedy of that day; the deep blue evening sky lifts our spirits with a vision of hope and compassion. Other work inspired is a trio in a patriotic color palette. An American flag depicts the impact of the first tower. A fierce, fiery background, engulfing two firemen with two ladders representing the Twin Towers. Their hands inter-locked, scorching into the fire, into our hearts…together with courage. A fireman alone with his emotions. His hands posture a candle light prayer that illuminates hope.
