    Statement of Work

“My art is like an organism…as you look closer you start seeing all the magical aspects of its composition, like veins and molecules, and as you step away you start seeing its form and meaning.” Olga Vargas

Olga was born in Cali, Colombia in 1978; she immigrated to Miami, Florida in 1990 and currently resides in Miramar, FL. Olga gives credit of her artistic endeavors to her mother (also an artist) who was always encouraging crafts and arts upon her and her sister. In present day, her husband is her biggest encouragement, always taking on a positive role in every aspect of their lives.

Olga has been creating art in the form of crafts, paint, sewing, etc. since she was 11 years old. “I remember that when we immigrated to Miami, being that my mom was a single mother, we couldn’t afford many things so if I could not buy it I would make it!” says Olga now 34 years old.

Olga has been involved in the professional art and technical world as an Interior Designer since she graduated from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 2001. Her career has taught her to appreciate the arts, color, scale, and aesthetic composition.

Throughout the years growing up, Olga was more attracted to crafts and carpentry rather than painting. It was not until last year, Nov 2012, that Olga discovered Collage as her art medium. “There is something about cutting, gluing, and forming a vision with your finger tips that inspires me. It’s like sculpting in a two-dimensional format” says Olga.

Olga started her first and most recent collection “Shredded Views” in Nov, 2012. The collection is inspired by landscapes, cityscapes, and iconic architecture from past and present history, all based on her passion for traveling and appreciation of color. The entire collection is composed of collage using magazine paper that has been shredded first and later applied by the artist on canvas. There is no paint or marker mixed into her collages except for her signature.

“Twin Sundown” is the first piece ever created by the artist as part of the “Shredded Views” collection. It was the artist’s way of paying homage to New York’s skyline of the Twin Towers prior to 9-11-2001. “I wanted for this piece to be full of life and color, reminding us of this New York landmark that has been shredded away form our lives”.

Her Shredded Views Collection is currently exhibited in Gallery 2014, Hollowood Florida. For more information please visit: www.olgavargasartist.com or www.gallery2014.com
