    Statement of Work

As a long time resident of Battery Park City, Petracca was profoundly moved by the recovery effort that took place in his backyard. In a 2002 exhibition, he offered us fragments of information on the constantly changing landscape downtown. He portrayed the World Trade Center as The Beacons illuminating the area at night, and depicted the immediate aftermath of 9/11 when a steel exterior facade stood eclipsed by a giant crane in Terrible Beauty. The highly charged rebuilding process was summarized in Hardhats 24/7 GZ and Derricks. Petracca captured a transitory moment in time as his neighborhood rebuilds.
