    Statement of Work

Half flemish Belgian and half jewish Moroccan, I lived in new York in the 70/s. Was at Windows of the World celebrating the bicentennial and worked at the time as a registered NewYork City guide. Ever since then I have considered myself a New Yorker , because NYC is the one place in the world where I am almost sure some one just like me is present on every block I walk.

Being a TCM practitioner specializing in Thanatology, when 9/11 struck, watching the news as morning routine from the clinic I worked at I lived it live 2,500 miles away and not having known anyone that passed away or was hurt in that day I remember that special grief that those of us New Yorkers felt far away and basically alone  for those surrounding me couldn’t connect to. I wished I was there in the Upper West Side grieving in family, for those who were directly touched and for a city I love and a country I care for.

Being a Visual Story Teller, I always thought to participate in the artist Registry of the 9/11 Museum. It took me 21 years. No comment ! I prepared a 20 pictures series named “From Grief to Freedom”, the first being the introduction and the last the conclusion of the series,  with the 18 in between manipulated as twin pictures honoring so the twin towers. When it all happened I chose 18 pieces of various authors of classical music from my CD collection, and built a Requiem Mass that goes historically speaking from the Invitatorium  with Gregorian chant to Faure’s Paradisium.

18 pieces of Music for 18 pictures. You may click on the spotify link to listen to a different track taking the timne to reflect on each picture, or listen to the complete Requiem with the spotify link that is on the last picture "2018"

Hoping you may feel my love of NYC and my grief to all those who lost a loved one. May this exhibit warm your heart.
